This weekend was divine and nothing short of amazing. Earlier this year, I made a conscious decision to honor myself. I’ve learned that honoring myself looks and feels like “checking in with me”. Honoring how I feel and honoring what I need. In most cases, we were taught to honor others, their feelings, and their needs and dishonor ourselves or honor others way before ourselves. I have come to realize that dishonoring one’s self, only leads to suffering. We completely disregard what we need, feel, and desire for many different reasons. This weekend, I needed to be near water. I needed solitude, I needed clarity, and I needed to come through for myself. The desire to connect, refresh, and reboot was way more pressing than the fear I felt about traveling alone. Although I traveled here alone, I didn’t feel alone. I enjoyed spending time with myself. I sat and ate at several restaurants, had an amazing massage session, and sat near the water several times; and not one time did I ever feel or even notice I was alone. The only thing I didn’t like is I didn’t have anyone around to take pictures.
Taking time to commune with God in stillness and solitude is priceless. We can't pour from an empty cup. The Word of God admonishes us to love the Lord God with all of our hearts and to love our neighbor as ourselves. This means we must put God first, ourselves second and others last. You are right in that we often get this wrong honoring others before and more than ourselves and it's out of order. I applaud you for taking time to get restored and replenished!
